The breath of the river

The day before had been uncannily mild, almost warm and pleasant. Nothing presaged what that winter night was bringing to the over-confident little village where life passed apparently without any outstanding event, as if nothing could ever break the enigmatic silence that shrouded the village in mystery. But Tiny people did not live on their own: the earth, the river, the sun and the wind formed inseparable parts of the place as well, playing the role that had been assigned to these elements by Fate. Nature usually took her course and was always expectant, ready to be felt. Moreover, because of the selfishness and avarice of the human beings, its inhabitants will suffer disturbing moments.
